English translation

[4293] (...) This Hadīth (which is similar to no. 4291) was narrated from Ibn 'Umar. As for Abū Usāmah and Ath-Thaqafī, their Hadīth mentions I'tikāf for one night. As for Shu'bah, he said: "He obliged himself to spend a day in I'tikāf." In the Hadīth there is no mention of a day or a night.

(1656) - وحَدَّثَنَا أَبُو سَعِيدٍ الْأَشَجُّ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو أُسَامَةَ، ح وحَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْوَهَّابِ يَعْنِي الثَّقَفِيَّ، ح وحَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْعَلَاءِ، وَإِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، جَمِيعًا عَنْ حَفْصِ بْنِ غِيَاثٍ، ح وحَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَمْرِو بْنِ جَبَلَةَ بْنِ أَبِي رَوَّادٍ، حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ، كُلُّهُمْ عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللهِ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَو، قَالَ حَفْصٌ مِنْ بَيْنِهِمْ: عَنْ عُمَرَ بِهَذَا الْحَدِيثِ، أَمَّا أَبُو أُسَامَةَ وَالثَّقَفِيُّ، فَفِي حَدِيثِهِمَا اعْتِكَافُ لَيْلَةٍ، وَأَمَّا فِي حَدِيثِ شُعْبَةَ، فَقَالَ: جَعَلَ عَلَيْهِ يَوْمًا يَعْتَكِفُهُ، وَلَيْسَ فِي حَدِيثِ حَفْصٍ ذِكْرُ يَوْمٍ وَلَا لَيْلَةٍ
