English translation

[4294] 28 - (...) 'Abdullāh bin 'Umar narrated that 'Umar bin Al-Khaṭṭāb asked the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ when he was in Al-Jirānah, after he had come back from Aṭ-Tā'if: "O Messenger of Allāh, during the Jāhiliyyah I vowed that I would spend a day in I'tikâf in Al-Masjid Al-Harâm. What do you think?" He said: "Go and spend a day in I'tikâf." He said: "And the Messenger of Allâh ﷺ had given him a slave woman from the Khums, but when the Messenger of Allâh ﷺ freed the captives, 'Umar bin Al-Khaṭṭâb heard their voices saying: 'The Messenger of Allâh ﷺ has set us free.' He said: 'What is this?' They said: 'The Messenger of Allâh ﷺ has set the prisoners free.' 'Umar said: 'O 'Abdullâh, go to that slave woman and set her free.'"

28 - (1656) وحَدَّثَنِي أَبُو الطَّاهِرِ، أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ وَهْبٍ، حَدَّثَنَا جَرِيرُ بْنُ حَازِمٍ، أَنَّ أَيُّوبَ، حَدَّثَهُ أَنَّ نَافِعًا، حَدَّثَهُ أَنَّ عَبْدَ اللهِ بْنَ عُمَرَ، حَدَّثَهُ، أَنَّ عُمَرَ بْنَ الْخَطَّابِ سَأَلَ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَهُوَ بِالْجِعْرَانَةِ، بَعْدَ أَنْ رَجَعَ مِنَ الطَّائِفِ، فَقَالَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، إِنِّي نَذَرْتُ فِي الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ أَنْ أَعْتَكِفَ يَوْمًا فِي الْمَسْجِدِ الْحَرَامِ، فَكَيْفَ تَرَى؟ قَالَ: «اذْهَبْ فَاعْتَكِفْ يَوْمًا»، قَالَ: وَكَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَدْ أَعْطَاهُ جَارِيَةً مِنَ الْخُمْسِ، فَلَمَّا أَعْتَقَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ سَبَايَا النَّاسِ سَمِعَ عُمَرُ بْنُ الْخَطَّابِ أَصْوَاتَهُمْ يَقُولُونَ: أَعْتَقَنَا رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَقَالَ: مَا هَذَا؟ فَقَالُوا: أَعْتَقَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ سَبَايَا النَّاسِ، فَقَالَ عُمَرُ: يَا عَبْدَ اللهِ، اذْهَبْ إِلَى تِلْكَ الْجَارِيَةِ، فَخَلِّ سَبِيلَهَا،
