At the end of the odd-numbered unit within a prayer, sitting upright before proceeding to the next cycle is called Jalsah Al-Istirâhâ (the sitting of rest). And this is desirable. Apart from this Hadîth, there are several other narrations which explicitly mention it in words as well as in practice. Some people who do not acknowledge it, attribute it to the Prophet's ﷺ old age - saying that the Prophet ﷺ had to sit thus due to old age and not as a Sunnah of the Prophet ﷺ. But they have no evidence for this sort of interpretation.
