2372. It was narrated from 'Uбайдوللّٰه that he heard Ibn 'Abbâs, when he was asked about the fast of 'Āshūrâ', say: "I do not know that the Prophet ﷺ fasted any day because of its virtue, except this day" – meaning the month of Ramaḍân and the day of 'Āshūrâ'.(Ṣaḥīḥ)

Commentary

As far as the merits of the blessed month of Ramaḍân are concerned, there is no question about it. After Ramaḍân, the best fast, or the most meritorious fast is that of 'Āshūrâ'. 'Āshūrâ' signifies the tenth day of the month of Muharram.
