Commentary
"Five Uqbiyya": Then an Uqbiyya weighed forty dirhams. Thus five Uqbiyyas would weigh two hundred dirhams. The dirham used to be a silver coin, as well as a unit of weight. At the present time, the price or the value of its silver weight is considered its Nisab or the scale. There is no Zakâh on less than this. The weight of two hundred dirhams equals 52 ½ tolas, or 595 grams (precisely, 592.9 grams). The Zakâh on monetary equivalents or the currencies in vogue shall be calculated according to this standard or scale.
