English translation

32. It was narrated that Umaimah bint Ruqaiqah said: "The Prophet ﷺ had a vessel made from a date tree in which he would urinate and place it under the bed." (Hasan)

Arabic text

٣٢ - أَخْبَرَنَا ‌أَيُّوبُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْوَزَّانُ قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا ‌حَجَّاجٌ قَالَ: قَالَ ‌ابْنُ جُرَيْجٍ : أَخْبَرَتْنِي ‌حَكِيمَةُ بِنْتُ أُمَيْمَةَ عَنْ أُمِّهَا ‌أُمَيْمَةَ بِنْتِ رُقَيْقَةَ قَالَتْ: «كَانَ لِلنَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَدَحٌ مِنْ عَيْدَانٍ يَبُولُ فِيهِ وَيَضَعُهُ تَحْتَ السَّرِيرِ».

Commentary

If there is no particular place set apart for urination in a house or if it is not possible to reach such a place, then to urinate in a chamber-pot or receptacle kept near one's bed and to empty it out at the crack of dawn, is an effective means of safeguarding one's house against filth.
