Text and translation

English translation

3262. It was narrated from Ibn ‘Abbâs that the Messenger of Allâh ﷺ said: “A previously married woman has more right to decide about herself (with regard to marriage) than her guardian, and a virgin should be asked for permission with regard to marriage, and her permission is her silence.” (Sahīh)

Commentary

Though the consent of the guardian is a prerequisite for the woman, the consent of the woman herself is equally essential.
