3467. It was narrated that ‘Umar bin Al-Khaṭṭāb, may Allāh be pleased with him, said that the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ said: “Actions are but by intentions, and each man will have but that which he intended. Whoever emigrated for the sake of
Allâh and His Messenger, his emigration was for the sake of Allâh and His Messenger, and whoever emigrated for the sake of some worldly gain or to marry some woman, his emigration was for that for which he emigrated.” (Saḥīḥ)

Commentary
The purpose of Imâm An-Nasâ’î is that when someone utters a word which bears the possibility of divorcing and also some other connotation, then the divorce would be considered to have been effected only when the speaker had intended it. Otherwise the divorce would be considered ineffective. For instance, somebody tells his wife, “Go away from my house.” (This Hadīth has preceded in detail earlier - see Hadīth 75).
