English translation
392. It was narrated from Jâbir bin 'Abdullâh concerning Asmâ' bint Umais that when she gave birth at Dhul-Hûlaifah, the Messenger of Allâh ﷺ said to Abû Bakr: "Tell her to perform Ghusl and (begin the Talbiyah)."(Sahîh)

392 - أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ قُدَامَةَ قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا جَرِيرٌ، عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ سَعِيدٍ، عَنْ جَعْفَرِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ فِي حَدِيثِ أَسْمَاءَ بِنْتِ عُمَيْسٍ حِينَ نُفِسَتْ بِذِي الْحُلَيْفَةِ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ لِأَبِي بَكْرٍ: «مُرْهَا أَنْ تَغْتَسِلَ وَتُهِلَّ»

Commentary
A woman's taking of a bath in the state of postnatal bleeding (An-Nifâs) or menstruation is not for purification - because this would be possible only after the postnatal bleeding or menses ends. Therefore such a bath is rather for bodily cleanliness.
