English translation

4421. Anas bin Mâlik said: "The Messenger of Allâh ﷺ used to sacrifice two horned, Amlah rams. He used to pronounce the name of Allâh and say: 'Allâhu Akbar,' and I saw him slaughtering them with his own hand, and placing his foot on their sides." (Sahîh)

Commentary

In a way, it is essential to recite Bismillah wallahu akbar over every animal to be slaughtered. A common sacrificial animal would be considered lawful if one forgets to recite the name of Allâh over it, although it should not be abandoned deliberately.
