English translation

4538. It was narrated from Ibn 'Umar that the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ forbade Muzābanah, and Muzābanah means selling fresh dates still on the tree for dried dates by measure, and selling fresh grapes for raisins by measure. (Ṣaḥīḥ)

Commentary

The Muzābanah form of sale is forbidden, because there is the possibility of loss to one of the two parties. It is possible that the trees yield less quantity of dates. Even otherwise, the dates become light in their weight on drying up.
