English translation

5548. It was narrated from Jâbir that the Prophet ﷺ said: “Raisins and dried dates are Khamr.” (Hasan)

Arabic text

٥٥٤٦ - أَخْبَرَنَا ‌الْقَاسِمُ بْنُ زَكَرِيَّا قَالَ: أَنْبَأَنَا ‌عُبَيْدُ اللهِ ، عَنْ ‌شَيْبَانَ ، عَنِ ‌الْأَعْمَشِ ، عَنْ ‌مُحَارِبِ بْنِ دِثَارٍ ، عَنْ ‌جَابِرٍ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: «الزَّبِيبُ وَالتَّمْرُ هُوَ الْخَمْرُ».

The purpose of this chapter and the relevant Tradition is the repudiation of the viewpoint that wine is made out of grapes only.
