English translation

649. Sufyân narrated a similar report with the same chain. (One of the narrators) (Abû) 'Abdur-Rahmân[1] (An-Nasâ'î) said: "It is not Abû Ja'far Al-Farrâ'." (Hasan)

648 - أَخْبَرَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ عَلِيٍّ قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى وَعَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ قَالَا: حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ بِهَذَا الْإِسْنَادِ نَحْوَهُ. قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ: وَليْسَ بِأَبِي جَعْفَرٍ الْفَرَّاءِ

Commentary

This Hadîth clearly proves that the command to pronounce the phrase as-salātu khairun minan-nawm (prayer is better than sleep) - in the Adhân of the dawn prayer - was given by the Messenger of Allâh ﷺ himself.
