Text and translation

English translation

996. It was narrated from Abû Sa'eed Al-Khudrî that a man heard another man reciting "Say: He is Allâh, (the) One"[2] and repeating it. When morning came he went to the Messenger of Allâh ﷺ and told him about that. The Messenger of Allâh ﷺ said: "By the One in Whose Hand is my soul, it is equal to one-third of the Qur'ân." (Ṣaḥīḥ)

Commentary

It being equivalent to a third of the Qur'an is on account of its theme. Because the foundation of the Dîn rests on three elements: Oneness of Allâh, the Prophethood, and the Hereafter. On it (Surat Al-Ikhlas) is the most complete and comprehensive delineation of the Oneness of Allâh - Tawhîd.
