Text and translation

English translation

1615. It was narrated from Abû Bishr Ja'far bin Abî Waḥshiyyah that he heard Ḥumaid bin 'Abdur- Rahmân say: "The Messenger of Allâh ﷺ said: 'The best prayer after the obligatory prayer is prayer at night and the best fasting after the month of Ramaḍân is Al-Muḥarram.'" Shu'bah bin Al-Hajjaj narrated it in Mursal form. (Sahih)

Commentary

The Aḥādīth 1614 and 1615 are identical. The only distinction is that in Hadīth 1614 the chain of transmitters is unbroken or continuous, whereas in the Hadīth 1615, there is no mention of the Prophet's Companion Abū Hurairah ﷺ. In Hadīth principles, such a narration is called Mursal (a Hadīth in which only the name of the Companion who originally narrated the Hadīth is missing from the chain). The transmitter of this Hadīth is Shu'bah bin Hajjaj.
