Text and translation

English translation

2385. It was narrated from Abū Qatādah that the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ was asked about his fasting and he got angry. 'Umar said: "We are content with Allāh as our Lord, Islam as our religion and Muḥammad as our Prophet." And he was asked about someone who fasted for the rest of his life and said: "He neither fasted nor broke his fast." (Sahīh)

Commentary

"We are content," means we adhere to the religion which has been revealed to you by Allāh, Most High. Forgive, therefore, our mistake.
