English translation
2980. It was narrated that Sa'eed bin Jubair said: "I saw Ibn 'Umar" and he mentioned something similar, except he said: "and I am an old man." (Hasan)

2977 - أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ رَافِعٍ قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ قَالَ: أَنْبَأَنَا الثَّوْرِيُّ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الْكَرِيمِ الْجَزَرِيِّ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ قَالَ: رَأَيْتُ ابْنَ عُمَرَ ذَكَرَ نَحْوَهُ إِلَّا أَنَّهُ قَالَ: وَأَنَا شَيْخٌ كَبِيرٌ

Commentary
Between As-Safâ and Al-Marwah, it is the Sunnah of the Prophet ﷺ, for men to run in the downward sloping space. It is, however, not obligatory. There is no harm if one is not able to run due to lack of strength or is unable to do so due to dense crowd. Ibn 'Umar did not have the ability to run due to old age. He, therefore, used to walk down the running space. Nowadays, the space for running has been made prominent by green fluorescent lights. Primarily, there was a specific cause for thus running but later it was made to form an absolute part of Safâ.
