English translation

5157. Abū Shaikh narrated from his brother Himmān, that when Mu‘āwiyah went on Hajj, he gathered together a group of the Companions of the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ at the Ka‘bah and said to them: “I adjure you by Allāh, did the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ forbid wearing gold?” They said: “Yes.” He said: “And I bear witness to that.” (Sahih) Al-Awzâ’î contradicted him, as did his companions from him about it.

5154 - أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الصَّمَدِ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا حَرْبُ بْنُ شَدَّادٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو شَيْخٍ، عَنْ أَخِيهِ حِمَّانَ، أَنَّ مُعَاوِيَةَ، عَامَ حَجَّ جَمَعَ نَفَرًا مِنْ أَصْحَابِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي الْكَعْبَةِ، فَقَالَ لَهُمْ: «أَنْشُدُكُمْ بِاللَّهِ، هَلْ نَهَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَنْ لُبُوسِ الذَّهَبِ»؟ قَالُوا: نَعَمْ، قَالَ: «وَأَنَا أَشْهَدُ» خَالَفَهُ الْأَوْزَاعِيُّ عَلَى اخْتِلَافِ أَصْحَابِهِ عَلَيْهِ فِيهِ "
