5379. It was narrated that Ĥumaid bin Ĥilâl said: "Abû Rifâ'ah said: 'I came to the Messenger of Allâh ﷺ while he was delivering a Khutbah, and said: "O Messenger of Allâh, a stranger has come to ask about his religion, for he does not know what his religion is." The Messenger of Allâh ﷺ stopped delivering his Khutbah and turned to me. A chair was brought, and I think its legs were of iron. The Messenger of Allâh ﷺ sat down on it and started to teach me what Allâh has taught him, then he went and completed his Khutbah.'" (Sahîh)

Commentary
1. The purpose of the chapter is that sitting on a chair while other people are seated on the ground is not prohibited, if there is a need to do so. For instance, delivering a discourse or sermon, so people could easily see the sermon-giver while hearing him. Even otherwise, sitting on a chair does not imply pride or vain conceit.
2. This narration proves Allâh's Messenger's ﷺ affection and gracefulness to the zenith of their perfection. He left his place and went forth to reach out to an unknown poor person.
