Commentary

In the Nabîdh or beverage brewed out of the Busr variety of dates, intoxication might probably have been taking place quickly. Ibn Abbas ﷺ might have been considering it unlawful on that account. In every case, it is unlawful only when it causes intoxication, otherwise not. But the concocted Nabîdh or beverage brewed out of Busr and Tamr is invariably unlawful, irrespective of whether it intoxicates or does not intoxicate. This is because Allâh's Messenger ﷺ has forbidden it absolutely. [1] Meaning when soaking them in water to make a drink.
