It should be kept clearly in mind that men and women in this Hadîth signifies men and women of one household, that is to say a husband and his wife, or a man and a woman who is enumerated among his unmarriageable kin - one's unmarriageable kin (Mahram) are those family members that one is forbidden to marry forever]. This narration certainly does not refer to marriageable kin (Ghayr Mahram) of various households. In other words, Islam does not permit unrestricted intermingling among men and women.
