English translation
805. It was narrated that Ibn ‘Abbâs said: “I prayed beside the Prophet ﷺ and ‘Aishah was behind us praying with us, and I was beside the Prophet ﷺ praying with him.” (Sahīh)

804 - أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ بْنِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا حَجَّاجٌ قَالَ: قَالَ ابْنُ جُرَيْجٍ: أَخْبَرَنِي زِيَادٌ، أَنَّ قَزَعَةَ مَوْلًى لِعَبْدِ قَيْسٍ أَخْبَرَهُ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ عِكْرِمَةَ مَوْلَى ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ: قَالَ ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ: «صَلَّيْتُ إِلَى جَنْبِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَعَائِشَةُ خَلْفَنَا تُصَلِّي مَعَنَا، وَأَنَا إِلَى جَنْبِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أُصَلِّي مَعَهُ»

Commentary
‘Āishah ؓ, despite her being the Prophet’s ؐ wife, did not stand alongside him because women and men cannot stand together side by side in congregational prayer, regardless of what their relationship is to one another.
