954. It was narrated that 'Uqbah bin 'Āmir said: "I followed the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ when he was riding, and I placed my hand on his foot and said: 'O Messenger of Allāh, teach me Sūrah Hūd and Sūrah Yūsuf. He said: 'You will never recite anything greater before Allāh than: "Say: I seek refuge with (Allāh), the Lord of the daybreak." and "Say: I seek refuge with (Allāh) the Lord of mankind.'" (Ṣaḥīḥ)

Commentary
An elementary student should commence with the shorter Surahs and not with the long ones. 'Uqbah bin 'Amir put forward his request to teach him two long Surahs, namely Surah Hûd and Surah Yûsuf, in the very beginning. Thereupon, the Prophet ﷺ guided him to start with shorter Surahs.
