English translation

102. Abū 'Ubaidah bin Muhammad bin 'Ammār bin Yāsir said: "I asked Jābir bin 'Abdullāh about wiping over the Khuff. He said, 'O my nephew! It is the Sunnah.” [He said:] “And I asked him about wiping over the Imāmah. He said, ‘[Wipe] the hair [with water].’” (Hasan)

١٠٢ - حَدَّثَنَا ‌قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا ‌بِشْرُ بْنُ الْمُفَضَّلِ ، عَنْ ‌عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ إِسْحَاقَ عَنْ ‌أَبِي عُبَيْدَةَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَمَّارِ بْنِ يَاسِرٍ، قَالَ: «سَأَلْتُ ‌جَابِرَ بْنَ عَبْدِ اللهِ، عَنِ الْمَسْحِ عَلَى الْخُفَّيْنِ فَقَالَ: السُّنَّةُ يَا ابْنَ أَخِي،» وَسَأَلْتُهُ عَنِ الْمَسْحِ عَلَى الْعِمَامَةِ، فَقَالَ: أَمِسَّ الشَّعَرَ الْمَاءَ.

Commentary

These Ahādīth inform that one would not wipe over only some hair or quarter of head, instead he would wipe over the entire head.
