English translation

1490. Abū Hurairah narrated that the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ said: “Whoever acquires a dog – with the exception of a dog to guard livestock, a hunting dog, or a farm dog – each day a Qirāt is deducted from his reward.” (Hasan) [Abū ‘Eisā said:] this Hadith is Hasan Sahih. It has been reported that ‘Aṭā’ bin Abī Rabāh permitted keeping a dog even if the man only had one sheep. Ishāq bin Manšūr narrated that to us (saying): "Hajjāj bin Muḥammad narrated that to us from Ibn Juraij from 'Aṭā'."
