English translation

1952. Ayyūb bin Mūsā narrated from his father, from his grandfather, that the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ said: "There is no gift that a father gives his son more virtuous than good manners." (Ḍa'if) [Abū 'Eisā said:] This Ḥadīth is Gharīb, we do not know of it except as a narration of 'Ammār bin Abī 'Ammār Al-Khazzāz [and he is 'Ammār bin Ṣāliḥ bin Rustum Al-Khazzāz] and Ayyūb bin Mūsā is Ibn 'Amr bin Sa'eed bin Al-'Ās. To me, this Ḥadīth is Mursal.

Commentary

The most precious gift that a father can give his children is to train them with good manners and virtuous conduct. There is, therefore, no harm in being harsh with them in order to achieve that end.
