Commentary

Concerning the version of the Hadīth contained in Sunan Abū Dāwūd the Prophet ﷺ is reported to have said: "He will be my namesake and his father's name will agree with my father's name, i.e. his name will be Muḥammad bin 'Abdullāh". Therefore, the Shiīte claim, that the Mahdī will be the Promised Imām as defined by them, could not be true since the name of their Hidden Imām, whose re-appearance they are waiting for, is Muḥammad bin Ḥasan 'Askari (and not Muḥammad bin 'Abdullāh).
