English translation

2392. Yazīd bin Nu'āmah Aḍ-Ḍabbī narrated that the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ said: "When a man becomes the brother of another man, then let him ask him about his name and his father's name and who he is, for indeed it shall nurture affection." (Da'if) [Abū 'Eisā said:] This Hadīth is Gharīb, we do not know of it except through this route, and we do not know of Yazīd bin Nu'āmah hearing from the Prophet ﷺ. Similar to this Hadīth has been reported from Ibn 'Umar from the Prophet ﷺ but its chain is not correct.

Commentary

Man, by nature, loves his father, his family and his tribe. Enquiring about a person's name and the family he belongs to and so on, is to convey the message to him that you attach importance to him, and want to remember him.
