English translation

2397. 'Aishah said: "I have not seen ailment effecting anyone worse than upon the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ." (Sahih) [Abū 'Eisā said:] This Hadīth is Hasan Sahih.

Arabic text

٢٣٩٧ - حَدَّثَنَا ‌مَحْمُودُ بْنُ غَيْلَانَ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا ‌أَبُو دَاوُدَ، قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنَا ‌شُعْبَةُ ، عَنِ ‌الْأَعْمَشِ قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ ‌أَبَا وَائِلٍ يَقُولُ: قَالَتْ ‌عَائِشَةُ : «مَا رَأَيْتُ الْوَجَعَ عَلَى أَحَدٍ أَشَدَّ مِنْهُ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ». هَذَا حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ صَحِيحٌ.

Commentary

The Prophet ﷺ has been invested with the highest rank among all mortals. His rewards and recompenses, too, are more abundant than anyone else's. By the same token, his sickness as well was more painful than that of others.
