Commentary

Man's desires and aspirations are longer than his life and, in order to fulfill them, he needs both an extended span of life and wealth. On the other hand, old age brings in its wake the weakening of his bones and limbs. This necessarily weakens his intellect as well. He is not, therefore, able to bridle his hopes and aspirations. Consequently, lust for wealth and longevity grows stronger and stronger inside his heart.
