2851. Muḥammad bin Sa'd bin Abi Waqqāṣ narrated from his father that the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ said: "It is better that one of you fill his insides with puss than to fill it with poetry.” (Sahih) [Abū ‘Īsā said:] This Ḥadīth is Hasan Ṣaḥīh.
٢٨٥٢ - حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَشَّارٍ، قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ ، عَنْ شُعْبَةَ ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ ، عَنْ يُونُسَ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ سَعْدِ بْنِ أَبِي وَقَّاصٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «لَأَنْ يَمْتَلِئَ جَوْفُ أَحَدِكُمْ قَيْحًا» خَيْرٌ لَهُ مِنْ أَنْ يَمْتَلِئَ شِعْرًا. هَذَا حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ صَحِيحٌ.

This Ḥadīth tells that it is disliked to adopt poetry to an excessive limit and to be extremely zealous about it, that a person becomes unmindful of his religious and worldly commitments.
