36. Ibn 'Abbās narrated: "The Prophet ﷺ wiped his head and his ears: the outside and the inside of them." (Sahīh) [Abū 'Eisā said:] There are narrations on this topic from Ar-Rubayy'. Abū 'Eisā said: The Hadīth of Ibn 'Abbās is a Ḥasan Sahīh Hadīth. Most of the people of knowledge act according to this. They hold the view that the ears should be wiped, their outsides and their insides.
٣٦ - حَدَّثَنَا هَنَّادٌ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ إِدْرِيسَ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَجْلَانَ ، عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ أَسْلَمَ ، عَنْ عَطَاءِ بْنِ يَسَارٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، «أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مَسَحَ بِرَأْسِهِ وَأُذُنَيْهِ ظَاهِرِهِمَا وَبَاطِنِهِمَا». وَفِي الْبَابِ عَنِ الرُّبَيِّعِ. حَدِيثُ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ صَحِيحٌ. وَالْعَمَلُ عَلَى هَذَا عِنْدَ أَكْثَرِ أَهْلِ الْعِلْمِ يَرَوْنَ مَسْحَ الْأُذُنَيْنِ ظُهُورِهِمَا وَبُطُونِهِمَا.

According to the four A'immah, the inner side of the ears is to be wiped with the index fingers and outer side with the thumbs; and authentic Ahādīth prove only this.
