3788. Zaid bin Arqam, may Allāh be pleased with both of them, narrated that the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ said: "Indeed, I am leaving among you, that which if you hold fast to them, you shall not [1] Al-Ahzāb 33:33. [2] This preceded under no. 3205. be misguided after me. One of them is greater than the other: The Book of Allāh is a rope extended from the sky to the earth, and my family – the people of my house – and they shall not split until they meet me at the Hawd, so look at how you deal with them after me.” (Sahīh) [Abū ‘Eisā said:] This Hadīth is Hasan Gharīb.

Commentary

The main theme and purpose is the same as given in the preceding narration. In this narration it has been made clear that the status of the Qur’ān is the highest and it is a must to follow its commands. The basic criterion is the Qur’ān and the deeds and actions of his family are to be tested on this standard, and no one of his family member will go against it.
