English translation

402. Abū Mālik Al-Ashja'ī narrated: "I said to my father: 'O my father! You offered Ṣalāt behind Allāh's Messenger ﷺ, Abū Bakr, 'Umar, 'Uthmān, and 'Ali bin Abī Tālib here in Al-Kūfah for about five years. Did they say the Qunūt?' He said: 'It is a newly invented matter my son.'" (Sahīh)

٤٠٢ - حَدَّثَنَا ‌أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مَنِيعٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا ‌يَزِيدُ بْنُ هَارُونَ ، عَنْ ‌أَبِي مَالِكٍ الْأَشْجَعِيِّ قَالَ: «قُلْتُ» ‌لِأَبِي : يَا أَبَةِ، إِنَّكَ قَدْ صَلَّيْتَ خَلْفَ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَأَبِي بَكْرٍ وَعُمَرَ وَعُثْمَانَ وَعَلِيِّ بْنِ أَبِي طَالِبٍ هَاهُنَا بِالْكُوفَةِ نَحْوًا مِنْ خَمْسِ سِنِينَ، أَكَانُوا يَقْنُتُونَ؟ قَالَ: أَيْ بُنَيَّ، مُحْدَثٌ. هَذَا حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ صَحِيحٌ. وَالْعَمَلُ عَلَيْهِ عِنْدَ أَكْثَرِ أَهْلِ الْعِلْمِ. وَقَالَ سُفْيَانُ الثَّوْرِيُّ: إِنْ قَنَتَ فِي الْفَجْرِ فَحَسَنٌ، وَإِنْ لَمْ يَقْنُتْ فَحَسَنٌ، وَاخْتَارَ أَنْ لَا يَقْنُتَ. وَلَمْ يَرَ ابْنُ الْمُبَارَكِ الْقُنُوتَ فِي الْفَجْرِ. وَأَبُو مَالِكٍ الْأَشْجَعِيُّ اسْمُهُ: سَعْدُ بْنُ طَارِقِ بْنِ أَشْيَمَ.
