English translation

546. Anas bin Mālik narrated: "We prayed Zuhr as four with the Prophet ﷺ in Al-Madīnah, and 'Aṣr as two Rak'ah in Dhil-Ḥulaifah." (Ṣaḥīḥ) (Abū 'Eisā said:) This Hadīth is Ṣaḥīḥ.

Arabic text

٥٤٦ - حَدَّثَنَا ‌قُتَيْبَةُ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا ‌سُفْيَانُ بْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ ، عَنْ ‌مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْمُنْكَدِرِ ‌وَإِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ مَيْسَرَةَ سَمِعَا ‌أَنَسَ بْنَ مَالِكٍ، قَالَ: «صَلَّيْنَا مَعَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ الظُّهْرَ بِالْمَدِينَةِ» أَرْبَعًا وَبِذِي الْحُلَيْفَةِ الْعَصْرَ رَكْعَتَيْنِ هَذَا حَدِيثٌ صَحِيحٌ.

Commentary

This Hadīth tells that as a traveler comes out of the territory of his own town, he is allowed to shorten the prayer.
