English translation

749. Abū Qatādah narrated that the Prophet ﷺ said: "Fast the Day of 'Arafah, for indeed I anticipate that Allāh will forgive (the sins) of the year after it, and the year before it." (Ḍa'if) (He said:) There are narrations on this topic from Abū Sa'eed. Abū 'Eisā said: The Ḥadīth of Abū Qatādah is a Ḥasan Ḥadīth. The people of knowledge consider fasting recommended on the Day of 'Arafah, except while (the pilgrim) is at 'Arafāt.

Commentary

It is proven from this Ḥadīth that fasting on the Day of 'Arafah (9th of Dhul-Hijjah) purifies a person from the mistakes and evil deeds of a year preceding and a year following it.
