English translation

878. ‘Abdullāh bin ‘Amr narrated that he heard the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ saying: “Indeed the Corner[1] and the Maqām are two corundums[2] from the corundums of Paradise. Allāh removed their lights, and if their lights had not been removed then they would illuminate what is between the east and the west.” (Da’if) Abū ‘Eisā said: This has been reported from ‘Abdullāh bin ‘Amr in Mawqūf form, as his own saying. There is also a narration from Anas, and it is a Gharīb Hadīth.

Commentary

“Corner” means the Black Stone, and “Maqām” means that stone on which Ibrāhīm stood and constructed the Ka’bah. These two stones are actually corundum of Paradise and their characteristics have been removed and taken away to prevent the people of earth to see the things of Paradise and to test their belief in the unseen.
