1563. Abū Sa'eed Al-Khudrī narrated: "The Messenger of Allāh ﷺ prohibited selling the spoils of war until it has been distributed." (Hasan) There is something on this topic from Abū Hurairah. [Abū 'Eisā said:] This Hadīth is Gharīb.
١٥٦٣ - حَدَّثَنَا هَنَّادٌ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا حَاتِمُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ ، عَنْ جَهْضَمِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ زَيْدٍ ، عَنْ شَهْرِ بْنِ حَوْشَبٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيِّ قَالَ: «نَهَى رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَنْ شِرَاءِ الْمَغَانِمِ حَتَّى تُقْسَمَ». وَفِي الْبَابِ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ. وَهَذَا حَدِيثٌ غَرِيبٌ.

Before distribution, the spoils are the property of the state, and the share of an individual is unknown prior to its division, therefore, its sale and purchase in this condition is unlawful.
