English translation

191. Abū Maḥdhūrah narrated that Allāh's Messenger ☼ sat with him and taught him the Adhān word for word. Ibrāhīm[1] said, "It is the same as our Adhān." Bishr[2] said: "So I said to him, 'Repeat it to me.' So he described the Adhān with At-Tarjī'." (Hasan) Abū 'Eisā said: The Ḥadīth of Abū Maḥdhūrah about the Adhān is a Ṣaḥīḥ Ḥadīth, and it has been reported from him by more than one route. This is acted upon in Makkah, and it is the view of Ash-Shāfi'i.

Commentary

'Tarjī' means to call two declarations, with a low voice for the first time and then to repeat with a louder voice for the second time.
