1946. Abū Bakr Aš-Šiddīq narrated that the Prophet ﷺ said: “The one who treats his slaves badly will not enter Paradise.” (Da’if) [Abū ‘Eisā said:] This Hadith is Gharīb. Ayyūb As-Sikhtiyānī and others criticized Farqad As-Sabakhī because of his memory.

Commentary

The Arabic word Malakah (literally, in possession) in the context of the Hadith means not only our handmaids and slaves but also the animals, like cattle and birds placed under our possession and care. It is, therefore, incumbent upon all of us to take good care of their needs, such as their food (or fodder) and drink, and their clothing, lodging, their physical well-being and health, as well as their protection from extreme weather conditions.
