English translation

2478. Yaḥya Al-Bakkā' narrated from Ibn 'Umar who said: "A man belched in the presence of the Prophet ﷺ so he said: 'Restrain your belching from us. For indeed those who are filled most in the world will be the hungriest on the Day of Judgement.'" (Da'if) [Abū 'Eisā said:] This Ḥadīth is Hasan Gharīb from this route. There is something on this topic from Abū Juhaifah.

Commentary

Overeating causes indolence and inactivity, which affects a person's discharge of religious duties - an ungrateful act. As a consequence, the man concerned shall be left hungry for a long, long time on the Day of Judgement.
