English translation
2602. Ibn 'Abbās narrated that the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ said: "I looked into Paradise and I saw that most of its people were the poor; and I looked into the Fire and I saw that most of its people were women." (Saḥīh)

٢٦٠٢ - حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مَنِيعٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا أَيُّوبُ ، عَنْ أَبِي رَجَاءٍ الْعُطَارِدِيِّ قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ ابْنَ عَبَّاسٍ يَقُولُ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «اطَّلَعْتُ فِي الْجَنَّةِ فَرَأَيْتُ أَكْثَرَ أَهْلِهَا الْفُقَرَاءَ،» وَاطَّلَعْتُ فِي النَّارِ فَرَأَيْتُ أَكْثَرَ أَهْلِهَا النِّسَاءَ. هَذَا حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ صَحِيحٌ.

Commentary
Ibn Hajar رحمه الله says that the Hadīth is either a part of the Prophet's ﷺ observations during his Ascension to the Heavens or a vision seen in a dream. And since the poor have historically been more numerous than the rich, and are also more religious-minded and upright, they will be the first to be lodged in Paradise.
