English translation

2693. Abū Salamah narrated that 'Aishah narrated to him that the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ said to her: "Indeed Jibril has sent Salām to you." She said: "And upon him be peace and the mercy of Allāh and His blessings." (Ṣaḥīḥ) There is something on this topic from a man from Banū Numair from his father, from his grandfather. [Abū 'Eisā said:] This Ḥadīth is Ḥasan Ṣaḥīḥ. Az-Zuhri also reported it from Abū Salamah from 'Aishah.

Commentary

If one sends Salām to an absent person, this Salām should be conveyed and it should be answered too. The answer to Salām should be given in the best form and it is better if the conveyer is also included in response to Salām. [Tuhfat Al-Aḥwadhī, vol. 3, p. 386]
