English translation
2730. Ibn Mas'ūd narrated that the Prophet ﷺ said: "Taking hold of the hand is from the completeness of the greeting." (Da'if) [There are narrations on this topic from Al-Barā' and Ibn 'Umar]. [Abū 'Eisā said:] This Hadīth is Gharīb. We do not know of it except as a narration of Yahyā bin Sulaim from Sufyān. I asked Muhammad bin Ismā'il about this Hadīth and he did not consider it to be preserved. He (Abū 'Eisā) said: "To me, he only meant the Hadīth of Sufyān, from Maṣṣūr from Khaithamah, from someone who heard from Ibn Mas'ūd, from the Prophet ﷺ who said: 'There is no conversing at night except for the one who has performed Salāt or the traveler.'" Muḥammad said: The Hadīth: "Taking hold of the hand is from the completeness of the greeting' was only related from Maṣṣūr, from Abū Ishāq, from 'Abdur-Raḥmān bin Yazīd or someone else."
