English translation

2877. Abū Hurairah narrated that the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ said: "Do not turn your houses into graves. Indeed Ash-Shaitān does not enter the house in which Sūrat Al-Baqarah is recited." (Sahīh) This Hadīth is Hasan Ṣahīh.

Arabic text

٢٨٧٧ - حَدَّثَنَا ‌قُتَيْبَةُ ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا ‌عَبْدُ الْعَزِيزِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ ، عَنْ ‌سُهَيْلِ بْنِ أَبِي صَالِحٍ ، عَنْ ‌أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ ‌أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ : أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: «لَا تَجْعَلُوا بُيُوتَكُمْ مَقَابِرَ»، وَإِنَّ الْبَيْتَ الَّذِي تُقْرَأُ فِيهِ الْبَقَرَةُ لَا يَدْخُلُهُ الشَّيْطَانُ. هَذَا حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ صَحِيحٌ.

Commentary

The dead in the graveyard do not make any remembrance, recitation of the Qur'an or any other deed, due to which the atmosphere of the graveyards remains deprived of the effects of remembrance, recitation and of their blessings; likewise the human must not turn their homes into graveyards and make themselves like the dead.
