(20). 3217. Anas bin Mālik said: "I was with the Prophet ﷺ, and he came to the door of a woman with whom he had consummated marriage, and some people were with her. So, he left to fulfill his need, and was prevented (from her). Then he came back, and some people were still with her. Then he left to fulfill his need and came back and they had gone." He said: "So, I mentioned that to Abū Ṭalḥah and he said, 'If it is as you say, something shall surely be revealed concerning this,' and the Verse of Hijāb was revealed. (Saḥīḥ) This Hadīth is Ḥasan Gharīb from this route. 'Amr bin Sa'eed (a narrator in the chain) is also called, Al-Aṣlā'.

Commentary

This bride was Zainab, the daughter of Jahsh. The people came to attend her wedding feast, but they remained sitting engaged in conversation after they had eaten. As the Prophet ﷺ had gone but they could not understand that they should have gone too; and finally they left because of the Prophet's coming and going again and again.
