English translation

3670. Ibn 'Umar narrated that the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ said to Abū Bakr: "You are my companion at the Hawd, and my companion in the cave." (Da'if) [Abū 'Eisā said:] This Hadīth is Hasan Gharīb Ṣaḥīḥ.

٣٦٧٠ - حَدَّثَنَا ‌يُوسُفُ بْنُ مُوسَى الْقَطَّانُ الْبَغْدَادِيُّ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا ‌مَالِكُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ ، عَنْ ‌مَنْصُورِ بْنِ أَبِي الْأَسْوَدِ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي ‌كَثِيرٌ أَبُو إِسْمَاعِيلَ ، عَنْ ‌جُمَيْعِ بْنِ عُمَيْرٍ التَّيْمِيِّ، عَنِ ‌ابْنِ عُمَرَ «أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ لِأَبِي بَكْرٍ»: أَنْتَ صَاحِبِي عَلَى الْحَوْضِ، وَصَاحِبِي فِي الْغَارِ. هَذَا حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ غَرِيبٌ.

Commentary

Being a companion of "Hawd" and a companion to the Cave means to be a companion of both the worlds, here in this world and in the Hereafter. Abū Bakr ﷺ has the distinction of being "the companion of the Cave at the time of emigration from Makkah to Al-Madinah.
