English translation

3722. ‘Ali said: “When I would ask the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ, he would give me, and when I would be silent, he would initiate (speech or giving) with me.” (Hasan) [He said:] This Hadīth is Hasan Gharīb from this route.

Arabic text

٣٧٢٢ - حَدَّثَنَا ‌خَلَّادُ بْنُ أَسْلَمَ الْبَغْدَادِيُّ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا ‌النَّضْرُ بْنُ شُمَيْلٍ، قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنَا ‌عَوْفٌ ، عَنْ ‌عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عَمْرِو بْنِ هِنْدٍ الْجَمَلِيِّ قَالَ: قَالَ ‌عَلِيٌّ : «كُنْتُ إِذَا سَأَلْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَعْطَانِي،» وَإِذَا سَكَتُّ ابْتَدَأَنِي هَذَا حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ، غَرِيبٌ مِنْ هَذَا الْوَجْهِ.
