English translation

549. Ibn 'Abbās narrated: "The Messenger of Allāh ﷺ traveled on a journey and he prayed two Rak'ah and two Rak'ah for nineteen days." Ibn 'Abbās said: "So when we would stay somewhere for nineteen (days) we would pray two Rak'ah, and if we stayed longer than that we would complete the Ṣalāt." (Ṣaḥīh) Abū 'Eisā said: This Ḥadīth is Ḥasan Gharīb Ṣaḥīh.

Commentary

A person on a journey is allowed to shorten only three prayers which consist of sets of four Rak'ah; Maghrib and Fajr prayers are not shortened, according to the consensus.
