English translation

2074. It was narrated from ‘Aishah that she freed Barirah and the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ gave her the choice, and she (Barirah) had a free husband. (Da’if)

Arabic text

2074 - حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا حَفْصُ بْنُ غِيَاثٍ، عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ، عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، عَنِ الْأَسْوَدِ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ، «أَنَّهَا أَعْتَقَتْ بَرِيرَةَ، فَخَيَّرَهَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَكَانَ لَهَا زَوْجٌ حُرٌّ»

Commentary

Shaikh Albānī ﷺ said, "It is untrue in this narration that her husband was a free man; the truth is that he was a slave, as comes in the following two narrations."
